
He asked me if I tried everything to clean the drive. I warned him the SuperDrive didn't work and if he wanted a working one, he'd need to pay to replace it. Last month I gave the MacBook to a friend. Nothing worked, so I just assumed the drive was dead.

I didn't really care that my SuperDrive seemed to be bust as I had no use for it, but over the next year, I would occasionally attempt to get it working by running various CD cleaner products on it and blowing inside the drive. Matter of fact, it ejected every subsequent DVD and CD we put in. We inserted the disc, only to have the SuperDrive spit it right back out. But in 2011, a friend's kid wanted to watch a DVD on my laptop during a trip. I can't remember the last time there was anything I needed to read or load from a CD.

I rarely used the SuperDrive in my 2009 MacBook Pro.
